Senate Concurrent Resolution 661

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HOULKA HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-99 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Houlka High School Boys Basketball Team completed the 1998-99 season with an outstanding 31-9 record; and

WHEREAS, the Wildcats competed well in tournament play, winning the South Pontotoc Invitational Tournament, the Houlka Invitational Tournament, and the District 3-1A Championship, and finishing as runner-up in the North 1A Championship and the State 3A Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Wildcats were ably coached by Head Coach Guy McDonald and Assistant Coach Jimbo Byers, who fine tuned the athletic skills and team effort of each player; and

WHEREAS, the following outstanding players on the Wildcats team received honor designations: Elijah Buchanan, All-State and All-North Half; Ervie Johnson, All-State and All-North Half; Curtis Huggins, All-State and All-North Half; and Greg Davidson, All-North Half; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this fine group of student athletes whose school has a longstanding tradition of championship tournament performance, and who continue to bring honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Houlka High School Boys Basketball Team for their outstanding 1998-99 season and for finishing as the runner-up in the State 1A Tournament Championship, and wish them continued success in their athletic, academic and career endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Coach McDonald and to the Principal of Houlka High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
